Gurktaler is a special herbal spirit produced with fresh herbs. Gurktaler is processed according to traditional and procedures that are kept secret.
Both herbal cultivation and herbal extract production take place in Carinthia in southern Austria. This underlines the regional affinity and the Austrian origin of this national beverage brand.
In the spring, the plants are cultivated and nurtured in the cathedral garden according to the specifications of organic farming. The first plant cut takes place around mid-June. The herbs are cut by hand, sorted and neatly packed in boxes.
The herbs are immediately transported to the Cathedral. There they are weighed and checked for cleanliness, varietal purity, moisture and freshness.
The herbs are then steeped in alcohol for a few days to extract the valuable ingredients.
After the period of storage, the herbs and the extract are separated. This extract is stored sorted in stainless steel tanks. For the Gurktaler Alpenkräuter the herbal extracts are mixed into a ratio that remains a strictly guarded secret.
